James Hodge
Community Advocate, Long Beach
• James Hodge is an asset to the city of Long Beach. He demonstrates his love for people by giving back to the City of Long Beach through activism and outreach ministry. Mr. Hodge worked for the City of Long Beach for 23 years and has been a long-time executive committee member for the Long Beach NAACP. In December 2005, he was elected as the youngest member of the Board of Trustees for the MLK Center. A year later, he was elected vice-chair of the board and served as the Board Chair until October of 2021.
• For his service to the community after Superstorm Sandy in 2012, Mr. Hodge was awarded the Long Beach Sandy Heroes Service Award. When the COVID-19 virus spread throughout the Long Beach Community, he again took action, setting up a food grab-and-go distribution site that provided over 350 meals a day to residents in need.
• Mr. Hodge has served and volunteered in various facets of both county and city community-focused organizations. He is a member of the Nassau County Police Commissioners Community Council and the Coalition of Underage Drinking. Mr. Hodge has received over 70 awards and citations, some of which represent recognition from federal, state, and local governmental bodies. Among his many awards, one of the major honors that Mr. Hodge has received was an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from the Anointed By God Ministries Alliance and Seminary, which was awarded to him for his years of service to his community and dedication to its betterment.
• Mr. Hodge graduated with honors from the Central Biblical School of Broadcasting. He was also an On-air Radio personality and Program Director for “Gospel All Night Through the Morning” on WGBB A.M. 1240 to carry on the vision of founder Bishop J.K. Jefferson. James’s tenure in the program lasted 12 years.
