Mary Ellen Mendelsohn

Trustee

For nearly two decades, Ms. Mendelsohn served as District Director and Chief of Staff for U.S. Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy, representing New York’s 4th congressional district from 1997-2015. In this role, she managed the congressional staff, acting as chief spokesperson and advisor and working on the Congresswoman’s signature issues, including gun violence and education. She also supported her re-election as campaign manager and finance director.  

In addition to her congressional experience, Ms. Mendelsohn has worked for the Kings County District Attorney’s Office, the Suffolk County Legislature, and the Chapin Foundation. She also served as the District Director for former U.S. Congressman Robert Mrazek. Before becoming District Director, she served her community as a trustee for the Village of Asharoken.  

Ms. Mendelsohn is on the Board of Directors of New Hour for Women and Children, the steering committee of the Rechler Family Foundation for Huntington Hospital, and previously served on the Board of Long Island Blood Services.
