The Glenwood Generating Plant located in Glenwood Landing in Nassau County, was at the time, considered a modern marvel, exemplary of 20th century industrial architecture. With a nameplate capacity of 232 MW, the plant was described as “the key electric generating plant of the Long Island system,” and its control room managed LILCO’s entire system. The plant was decommissioned by LIPA and demolished between 2013-2015 due to obsolescence and structural issues.
