LIPA's Board Governance Policies

Governance

LIPA is a not-for-profit public utility with a mission to enable clean, reliable, and affordable electric service for our customers on Long Island and the Rockaways.

LIPA is governed by a nine-member Board of Trustees. Understanding its important civic responsibility, the LIPA Board is committed to excellence in governance consistent with its fiduciary duties to our customer-owners. Sound principals of public utility governance and oversight are necessary for LIPA to achieve its mission.

The following documents define the roles and responsibilities of the LIPA Board of Trustees in advancing the long-term interests of LIPA’s customer-owners by setting appropriate priorities and enhancing the collective performance of the Board as a public power governing body. The LIPA Board will continue to review and enhance these policies to ensure the achievement of LIPA’s mission to enable clean, reliable and affordable electric service to our customer-owners on Long Island and the Rockaways.
