Categories and Damages
- Tropical Storm
No real damage to building structures. Tree limbs and branches broken; some whole trees uprooted. Minor flooding due to heavy rains tides possible. - Cat-1 Hurricane
Minor damage to structures, primarily to poorly constructed and unanchored mobile homes. Shrubbery and trees broken or uprooted. Some coastal road flooding, as well as minor pier damage. - Cat-2 Hurricane
Damage to roofing material, doors and windows as well as mobile homes and inadequately anchored signs. Substantial damage to shrubbery and trees with some trees blown down. Considerable coastal flooding and beach erosion. - Cat-3 Hurricane
Some structural damage to small residences and utility buildings, with a minor amount of curtainwall failures. Buildings that lack a solid foundation, such as mobile homes, are usually destroyed. Significant damage to shrubbery and trees with foliage blown off trees and large trees blown down. Severe flooding near the coast destroys smaller structures, while larger structures are hit by floating debris. Additionally, terrain may be flooded well inland. - Cat-4 Hurricane
Extensive curtainwall failures, with some complete roof structural failures on small residences. Complete destruction of mobile homes. Extreme damage to shrubs and trees. All signs are blown down. Extensive damage to doors and windows. Catastrophic coastal and inland flooding with major beach erosion.
