LIPA Green Choice Program

The LIPA Green Choice program provides information and assistance to Long Islanders on how they can become Green Power purchasers.

Green power is electricity that is generated using cleaner, renewable resources like wind, hydropower and bio-energy.

Program Highlights

  • Voluntary program that allows customers to purchase "environmental attributes” from specialized Green Power Marketers
  • An environmental attribute represents the reduction of green house gases associated with replacing old, inefficient electric generation facilities with “green", renewable resources, like wind, hydro-electricity or bioenergy.
  • Support the development of electric generation using cleaner, renewable resources.

Green Choice and Your Bill

A Green Choice customer will continue to pay the same electric rates. The dollars you add to your LIPA payment to support green power could lessen the time that we are dependent on fossil fuels, and that could have a positive impact on rates in the future.
