Utility Services Management pertains to those services
necessary to conduct the day-to-day operations of LIPA’s
transmission and distribution business.
Why is LIPA issuing a Utility Services Management RFP
(Request for Proposals)?
The existing contract with our current service provider
will expire at the end of 2013. The RFP is an important part
of the process to competitively select a service provider to
continue to provide reliable services in 2014 and beyond.
What
services are requested in the RFP?
The services cover essentially everything required for
the operation of LIPA’s transmission and distribution
business, including the operation, maintenance and
construction of LIPA’s transmission and distribution
facilities, customer services, financial services and all
necessary back office support services.
When will LIPA select a service provider?
LIPA anticipates making a final selection in late 2011,
following a comprehensive process for reviewing and
evaluating proposals received.
Who is currently providing these services?
National Grid (formerly KeySpan Energy) is currently
providing these services to LIPA.
When will
the new contract start?
It is anticipated that the new contract will commence on
January 1, 2014.
How long
will the new contract be?
The new contract will be for a term of ten years.
How will the RFP affect National Grid employees?
One of LIPA’s objectives in the RFP is to foster
continuity for the union and non-union workforce should
there be a change in service provider, including the
opportunity to retain similar job positions, compensation
and benefits.
Will National Grid be allowed to respond to the RFP?
Yes.
Will the RFP affect electricity costs for LIPA customers?
At this time the results of the competitive process are
unknown, however, the RFP is designed to provide the best
value to LIPA’s customers.
Will the results of this RFP affect reliability of electric
service?
No, the goal of the RFP is to continue to provide highly
reliable service to our customers.
Will the RFP
impact gas service?
LIPA does not provide gas service. The RFP only relates
to LIPA’s electric service.
Will
this change how I pay my electric bills?
LIPA will continue to offer a variety of ways to pay your
bills.
