LIPA Partners with Cleary School for the Deaf to Become More Energy Efficient
Nesconset, NY—Today, Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) President and CEO Kevin S. Law presented the Cleary School for the Deaf a LIPA Commercial Efficiency rebate of $13, 900.
The Cleary School participated in a Custom Retrofit project which consisted of the replacement of inefficient lighting with over 300 High Performance lighting fixtures and 20 incandescent exit signs with efficient light emitting diodes (LED) at a cost of $42,455. The upgrades are estimated to save the school 117, 645 kWh of energy annually. This will result in an approximate electric cost savings of $22, 000 per year. The savings achieved could act as a catalyst to hire additional teachers to work with the children at the school.
“The participation of the Cleary School for the Deaf in our efficiency program will not only save the school money on its electric bills it will help make Long Island a cleaner, safer place to live,” said LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law. “LIPA is committed to providing our business, residential and public service customers with programs to make energy efficiency a way of life.”
“The support that LIPA offered was tremendous toward implementing this project. We appreciate the financial savings and, more important, the positive impact on the environment that could not have occurred without the rebate that LIPA offered,” said Superintendent for the Cleary School for the Deaf Ken Morseon.
The energy efficiency measures taken by the Cleary School for the Deaf under LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency program will reduce LIPA’s demand by 32kW per year and will have the equivalent effect of eliminating over 74 tons of Carbon Dioxide from the air or 7,670 gallons of gasoline not consumed for a year.
LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program is part of LIPA’s Efficiency Long Island (ELI) initiative. Efficiency Long Island is a 10-year, $924 million energy efficiency program launched in 2009, which offers a wide array of incentives, rebates and initiatives to LIPA’s residential and commercial customers to assist them in reducing their energy usage and thereby lowering their bills.
