Uniondale, NY— In an effort to increase awareness about the Long Island Power Authority’s nationally renowned Efficiency Long Island (ELI) Program, the Authority announced today that ELI has launched its own Facebook page.

"Like all our other social media initiatives, Facebook is another viable tool we can use to communicate with our customers to keep them informed of our latest news, programs, rebates and incentives under the ELI program, said LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law. “The Efficiency Long Island Facebook page will serve as an invaluable resource to our customers who are continually looking for new ways to become more energy efficient and environmentally consciousness.”

The new Facebook page will allow customers to interact with each other as well as LIPA. Fans that choose to “Like” this page will not only learn about energy-saving tips for their home and business, but how to lower their energy bill. The ELI Facebook page will offer a wide array of multimedia features such as video, photos and discussion forums to foster interaction amongst the Facebook community. In addition, to complement the new Facebook page, Efficiency Long Island has its own dedicated Twitter account, @EfficiencyLI, where customers can sign up to receive short, timely messages and efficiency tips from Efficiency Long Island.

Efficiency Long Island is a 10-year, $924 million energy efficiency program that makes a wide array of incentives, rebates and initiatives available to LIPA’s residential and commercial customers to assist them in reducing their energy usage and thereby lowering their bills. ELI is one of the most ambitious efficiency programs in the country and will delay the construction of the next fossil-fueled power plant on Long Island.

To become a member of the Efficiency Long Island’s Facebook page simply visit www.facebook.com/efficiencylongisland, log in, and click on the “Like” button. To follow Efficiency Long Island on Twitter, visit http://twitter.com/EfficiencyLI and click “Follow”.

The use of Facebook is just another way LIPA continues to distribute information to its customers. Currently, LIPA's online initiatives include Twitter, YouTube, Flickr in addition to website features such as RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds, Webcasts, online interviews, online outage reports and much more. LIPA encourages all Long Islanders to visit www.lipower.org for complete information on Efficiency Long Island as well as various customer programs.

“As our demand for energy continues to grow, it is incumbent upon all of us to make energy efficiency a priority,” added Law.
