LIPA COMPLETES MAJOR STORM RESTORATION WORK
Customers Encouraged to Call 1-800-490-0075 to Report Any Remaining Outages
Uniondale, NY - LIPA and National Grid have completed major restoration work in the aftermath of the worst storm to hit Long Island since 1992. Electric service has been restored to all multiple customer outages affected by the storm and only 33 storm related customers (as of 3:00pm) remain without power but all of those jobs have been dispatched and they will have power later today. LIPA encourages any customers who remain without power to call 1-800-490-0075 to report their outage.
After a severe storm there is always a big clean up process. Damage exists in many locations on the electric system which requires that we take short duration intentional outages to safely make permanent repairs. Customers will be notified as to when these outages will take place. These interruptions of service will be short in duration, generally running from 30 minutes to a couple of hours.
Customers are also experiencing major clean up of their own properties. We encourage our customers to contact experienced and licensed electricians and tree experts for post-storm services and check their homeowner insurance policies for coverage.
Thousands of LIPA and National Grid employees and contractors including line and tree crews worked around-the-clock to restore electric service to customers safely and quickly as possible.
Now that the major restoration work is complete, LIPA and National Grid will shift to follow up work. Some emergency repairs are temporary which was necessary in order to restore service to customers as safely and as quickly as possible, but will require follow up for permanent repairs.
“I want to thank all of our customers for their patience and cooperation during the past five days,” said LIPA President & CEO Kevin S. Law. “A special thank you also goes out to all our dedicated men and women who helped restore power as quickly as possible.”
LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric provider, owns the retail electric Transmission and Distribution System on Long Island and provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens.
