LIPA Encourages 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade Students to Enter the 2010 Electric Safety Poster Contest
Uniondale, NY—The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), as part of its commitment to educate customers on electric safety is inviting all third, fourth and fifth grade students in the LIPA service territory, which includes Nassau, Suffolk County, and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens, to participate in the 12th Annual LIPA Electric Safety Poster Contest.
"Electric safety is an important lifelong message," said LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law. "LIPA's goal is to help young students gain an understanding of electric safety while making it interesting and fun. All Long Islanders should have an understanding of the benefits and potential hazards of electricity."
Elementary students are encouraged to create safety messages and submit posters to their schools, which in turn will choose school winners. LIPA judges will then select four winning posters from each eligible grade. Each winner will receive a LIPA commemorative plaque of their poster and a gift certificate.
Winners will be contacted in April and invited, along with their families and teachers, to a ceremony in May, which is Electric Safety Month. The posters will be unveiled for members of the media at this time.
All entries must be postmarked no later than Friday, March 19th, 2010 and delivered to LIPA’s Corporate Office in Uniondale, NY.
