LIPA Announces New Social Media Initiatives
New Twitter presence and YouTube channel will enrich LIPA’s communication with customers
Uniondale, NY- The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) announced enhancements to its social media and communications strategy through the launch of a LIPA Twitter account, YouTube channel, and other emerging social media tools.
“Utilizing social media is a new cost-effective component to our online communications strategy,” said LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law. “Embracing technology and social media applications, such as Twitter, can be a great opportunity to make connections with our customers across Long Island, while distributing helpful information to them in real-time. It’s a smart and easy way to stay current with the latest information LIPA has to offer.”
Twitter is a social networking and microblogging service that enables its users to send short, 140-character updates, known as tweets, to a group of followers. At this time, LIPA Twitter-followers can access information such as energy saving tips, Web site additions, and company, as well as industry news. LIPA envisions future tweets could range from customer service issues to severe weather alerts and power outage updates.
LIPA’s YouTube channel makes it possible for viewers to access videos of LIPA press events, interviews, safety and energy saving tips. In addition, the social networking features of YouTube, such as commenting, rating, favoriting, and sharing means that LIPA can truly connect and form new relationships with its customers.
The use of Twitter and YouTube is just another way LIPA continues to distribute information to its customers online. Currently, LIPA's Web site features RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds, Webcasts, online interviews, online outage reports and much more. LIPA encourages all Long Islanders to visit www.lipower.org for complete information on various customer programs.
