Governor Paterson, Congressman Steve Israel, and LIPA President &
CEO Kevin Law Propose Long Island’s “Smart Energy Corridor” and Long
Island’s First Energy Smart Campus.

Governor David A. Paterson, represented by
Deputy Secretary for Energy Paul DeCotis, U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, and
Long Island Power Authority President & CEO Kevin Law, will announce
that LIPA, Stony Brook University and Farmingdale State College have
partnered on a plan for Long Island’s “Smart Energy Corridor” and Long
Island’s First Energy Smart Campus. The goals of the plan, which will be
the basis of a proposal for federal stimulus funding, will be to deploy
and enhance smart grid technology along the Route 110 corridor in the
towns of Babylon and Huntington while utilizing Long Island's Energy
Education capabilities to develop and train the Green Jobs necessary for
a 21st Century Grid. Following the press announcement, Congressman
Israel will be hosting a “Smart Grid Summit” with New York State’s
energy leaders on how to position the Long Island region as a smart grid
corridor. Panel members include: LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law;
Executive Director and Deputy Chairman for National Grid, Bob Catell;
Chairman and CEO for Con Edison, Kevin Burke; and New York Power
Authority President and CEO, Richard Kessel. |
