WHAT: The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA), in partnership with American Superconductor, the United States Department of Energy, Nexans and Air Liquide, will hold a press conference to discuss the commissioning of the world’s largest and highest-voltage superconductor electric transmission cable system installed in Holbrook. The superconductor cable can carry 150 times the power of a conventional copper wire of similar size. The 138kV system is capable of carrying 574 megawatts of power in a right-of-way of only four feet. This cutting-edge technology, among other benefits, could supply economical electric power to areas with transmission bottlenecks.
WHEN: Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 10:00 AM.
A bus to the site of the superconductor cable will leave at approximately 10:30 AM.
WHERE: The Islandia Marriott Long Island, Grand Salon

Directions to the Superconductor substation at 870 Portion Rd. Ronkonkoma, NY, will be available at the event.
