LIPA to Host Public Hearings on Update to Energy Master Plan
|
| WHAT: |
The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) will
host the first of two scheduled public hearings on the update of LIPA’s
Energy Master Plan tomorrow from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Nassau
County Legislative Chamber, 1550 Franklin Avenue, Mineola, NY. “LIPA’s
Energy Master Plan needs to reflect recent changes in the industry, ever
soaring fuel prices, supply, changes in the markets and environmental
regulations and policy,” said LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law.
“Since the completion of the initial plan, we now have better
information on cost and performance of resource options. Additionally,
many new sources of energy require a lead time of 5-7 years for
development. The time is now to start looking at what resource options
will best meet our energy needs for the future,” said Law, who called
for the update in December 2007.
“Over the past four years, conditions have dramatically changed with
higher fuel prices, improvements in technology and new state and federal
energy policies. We must update the plan to account for these changes,
and I want the plan to be developed through an open, transparent
process. Input from the people who live and work in LIPA’s service
territory is critical to our success in this regard.”
