Energy Providers and Community Advocates Working Together at The 4th Annual Energy Forum for Advocates Working with Low-Income Families
Uniondale, NY— For many Long Island families, meeting
the costs of essential energy commodities can place financial stress on
household budgets. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) recognizes this need
and continues to work hard to find ways to help all Long Islanders lower their
energy costs.
The energy forum will be held Thursday, October 18, 2007 from 9:30AM to 3:30PM at the Local IBEW Headquarters in Hauppauge. The forum will bring together LIPA, National Grid/KeySpan Energy Corp, the Community Development Corp, NYS Office of Temporary Disability Assistance, the Nassau Department of Social Services and the United Way of Long Island to explore programs and initiatives that can help lower-income families meet their energy needs.
“LIPA’s energy conservation programs, such as the Residential Energy Affordability Program, (REAP) are designed to assist all Long Islanders in reducing their overall energy consumption and thereby lower their energy costs,” said LIPA President and CEO Kevin S. Law. “However, LIPA believes that more can and should be done. To assist lower income families that are more vulnerable to inflation related cost increases, The Annual Energy Forum is a valuable opportunity for Long Island’s energy suppliers and community advocates to discuss these issues, share constructive ideas and work together towards finding solutions.”
The 4th Annual Energy Forum will provide the latest information on energy assistance programs for 2006-2007 such as:
- Special energy savings programs including LIPA's REAP Program,
Assisted Home Performance Program and weatherization assistance programs. - HEAP access for food stamp recipients
- Overview of HEAP and Project Warmth
- DSS emergency energy assistance
- Consumer Advocacy
- Deferred Payment Arrangements for customers
- What is “collections” all about?
- Nutrition Outreach & Education Program
