LIPA’s “Cool Homes Program” Reduces Energy Consumption and Increases Comfort
Uniondale, NY— As the heat index rises so does the demand
for air conditioning in Long Island homes. The most cost effective and efficient
way to cool homes is with properly installed central air conditioning (CAC). The
Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) offers the Cool Homes Program, as part of
Home Performance with ENERGY STAR®, to encourage customers to purchase or
upgrade their CAC to a high-efficiency system for greater savings and comfort.
With LIPA’s Home Performance customers can save up to 40% on energy costs.
To help educate its customers LIPA is offering a free Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® seminar at the The Pavilion at Hempstead Town Hall One Washington Street, Hempstead on Wednesday July 18, at 7:00PM. The seminar will include topics such as: how to choose the proper CAC system; details on LIPA rebates and tax incentives; and how to choose a contractor.
“Studies indicate that the average residential central air-conditioner can use twice as much energy as necessary,” said CEO/President Richard M. Kessel. “LIPA can help Long Island homeowners enjoy all the benefits of new, high-efficiency equipment. Utilizing the Cool Homes Program, homes with a properly installed CAC or heat pump can lower electric bills, reduce maintenance costs and extend the life of the equipment.”
Buying a CAC is a big decision, and there are several things to consider before purchasing equipment. ENERGY STAR®-rated central air conditioners have a higher seasonal efficiency rating (SEER) than standard models, which makes them more efficient. All CACs have a SEER rating or a measure of the system’s average efficiency over the entire summer. The SEER rating measures the system’s efficiency on the hottest summer days.
High efficiency air conditioners usually cost more than standard efficiency units, but the energy savings should more than make up the difference in just a few years. And LIPA’s rebates make this deal even cooler.
LIPA Cool Homes Program can help you save hundreds of dollars on CAC. Energy efficient central air conditioning will reduce your energy expenses and increase the comfort of your home. The LIPA rebate will reduce your initial expense, and increased efficiency will help your household budget.
