The Ninth Annual Electric Safety Poster Contest Award Ceremony Hosted by LIPA
Uniondale, NY—The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is
pleased to announce the 12 winners of the Electric Safety Poster Contest have
been chosen. The winning contestants, their families and teachers were present
at a ceremony where the posters were unveiled. The mission of the contest is to
prompt students to think about electric safety and also incorporate emergency
readiness messages into their artwork.
For the last nine years LIPA has been inviting children in the third, fourth and fifth grades of any public or private school in Nassau County, Suffolk County, or the Rockaway Peninsula of Queens, served by LIPA to participate in an Electrical Safety Poster Contest. Students are encouraged to create messages about electric safety and/or emergency preparedness.
“The contest gives the children of Long Island an opportunity to learn about electric safety and at the same time be creative” said LIPA CEO/President Richard M. Kessel. “We are always impressed with the knowledge and artistic talent the children reveal each year.”
The response of posters submitted from the schools was staggering. A panel of impartial judges chose the winners from all the entries. Four winning posters were selected from each grade Island-wide-12 winner’s total. Each winner receives a commemorative plaque of their poster, and a $100 gift certificate. Additionally, the posters have been made into book covers that are available to children within LIPA’s service area.
The winning posters are posted on the LIPA Web site for all to view. The time and effort the children put into their work is thoughtful and creative.
