Over 300 Contestants Audition for the “ENERGY STAR® Idol” Talent Search

The Next Open Audition to be Held March 3rd at Smithhaven Mall

Uniondale, NY—The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is pleased to announce that the momentum and excitement continues to build for LIPA’s first ever “ENERGY STAR IDOL” contest. On Saturday February 17, at the Bayshore Mall, 50 talented young boys and girls auditioned, as hundreds of shoppers gathered in amazement at the fabulous showcase of “Energy Stars”. To take part in the excitement visit LIPA’s Web site at http://www.lipower.org or visit the KJOY Web site for a sample of the potential Energy Star Idols.

As part of a unique partnership that seeks to educate youngsters about the environmental and economic benefits of energy efficiency. LIPA, Long Island’s very own NHL team the New York Islanders and Long Island’s American Idol Kevin Covais are searching for Long Island children under 18 to win over the judges with their version of the song “I am an ENERGY STAR.”

The next open-audition will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at the Smithhaven Mall. The fun begins at 11:00AM with Kevin Covais performing and signing autographs for all of the Energy STAR contestants. There will also be a raffle for Islander tickets. Promptness is recommended. It is a first come first contest, the earlier you show up the better.

The “ENERGY STAR IDOL” contest was officially launched on November 21, 2006. Long Island youngsters who would like to participate in the contest can visit http://www.lipower.org/cei or http://www.newyorkislanders.com to download the song the lyrics and the contest rules. Kids ages 18 and under living in LIPA’s service area can participate in the contest by singing their own version of LIPA’s “I am an Energy Star” theme song at an upcoming open-audition at selected locations across Long Island or they can submit a video of their performance by March 15, 2007.

The first and second “I am an Energy Star” open-audition was held at the Walt Whitman Mall and Roosevelt Field Mall respectively and were a huge success. There were many talented contestants singing their rendition of “I am an Energy STAR”, which kept the competition strong and a great time was had by all.

In addition, Long Island’s own American Idol Kevin Covais preformed to the delight of the gathered contestants and hundreds of spectators.

Winners of the “I am an Energy Star” contest will be announced in April 2007 and contest winners will appear in LIPA’s upcoming energy efficiency advertising campaign. Each winner will also receive an Energy Star-rated Macintosh laptop computer.
