LIPA’s Web Site Ranked in Top 10 by the 2005 Electric and Gas Company Web Site Review

Uniondale, NY – November 1, 2005 - The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) announced today that Platts, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, and world leader in providing energy information for nearly a century, gave LIPA’s Web site “lipower.org” a Public Utilities Ranking of number 2 among 105 national electric and gas utilities.

The Platt’s “E SOURCE 2005 Review of U.S. Electric and Gas Company Web Sites” rated 27 features and functions from the customer’s experience of 105 utility Web sites across the nation. The Web site review evaluation included Web site framework, customer segmentation, customer information and online customer service both public and secure.

“LIPA is very pleased that its Web site would rank so high based on customer satisfaction,” said LIPA Chairman Richard M. Kessel. “We’re committed to providing our customers with the type of excellent service and valuable information they’ll need to get the most out of their energy dollars.”

LIPA continuously seeks ways to expand the features and capabilities of its Web site. According to the most recent Web site statistics, “lipower.org” welcomed over 180,000 visitors in the month of August alone. Features such as the My Account Home page, the My Account Bank section, The Clean Energy Initiative (CEI) section, the Storm Center and the Your Home section continue to draw record numbers of visitors. LIPA encourages all Long Islanders to visit lipower.org and find out why it will soon be the number 1 utility Web site in the nation.

The Public Utilities Ranking shows how the Web sites of the public utilities included in the E SOURCE 2005 Review of U.S. Electric and Gas Company Web Sites ranked against each other. The Overall Ranking indicates how the company’s Web site ranked in the overall review of 105 U.S. electric and gas company Web sites.

LIPA, a non-profit municipal electric provider, owns the retail electric Transmission and Distribution System on Long Island and provides electric service to more than 1.1 million customers in Nassau and Suffolk counties and the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens. LIPA is the 2nd largest municipal electric utility in the nation in terms of electric revenues, 3rd largest in terms of customers served and the 7th largest in terms of electricity delivered. In 2006, LIPA outperformed all other overhead electric utilities in New York State in all three major reliability categories.
