Land-Based Wind Turbines

Wind Energy is a clean and renewable source of electric power. It is the world's fastest growing energy source. Through our Clean Energy Initiative, LIPA is advocating the development of wind energy as a reliable alternative.

Wind for My Home
Wind-powered electric systems sized for homes, farms, and small businesses are used by individuals to lower their electric bills, become independent of their electric grid, and to avoid the unpredictability of traditional energy prices.

Shoreham Energy Center
On January 25, 2005, LIPA dedicated two wind turbines at the now defunct Shoreham nuclear power plant.

Southampton College
A Berge Windpower 10 kW wind turbine was installed in May 2002 at LIU’s Southampton College campus.

Brookhaven Town Hall
In May 2003, a 10kW Bergey wind turbine was installed at the Town of Brookhaven offices in Farmingville.

Zeh Farm
On August 31, 2002, the first LIPA-LIFB wind turbine was dedicated on the Zeh Farm on Route 25 in Calverton.
