NY ENERGY STAR® Homes  Builders/Raters

Information for Builders and Raters of NY ENERGY STAR® Labeled Homes

Builders — You have a lot to gain by being part of this program. You'll have the advantage of differentiating your homes when it comes to lower energy use, superior energy performance, greater comfort, durability, and value. This can translate into additional sales and higher profits for you. The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) is working with builders throughout Long Island, the Long Island Builder's Institute (LIBI) and with the New York State Builders' Association (NYSBA) to set a new standard of energy efficiency and quality for residential new construction. They can help your business grow through special training, marketing and sales support, and financial incentives. The financial incentives are available to help build, promote, and market New York ENERGY STAR Labeled Homes.

Raters — Home Energy Raters work along side our participating New York ENERGY STAR labeled homes builders. New York ENERGY STAR Labeled Homes need to achieve a HERS rating of 84 or higher, have a mechanical ventilation system installed, and meet an annual kWh savings requirement through the use of ENERGY STAR® qualified lighting and appliances.

As a certified rater you will be able to rate the overall energy efficiency of a home based on its:

  • Insulation levels
  • Heating and cooling system efficiency
  • Air tightness
  • Windows
  • Appliances and lighting
