ABCs of the Program
LIPA’s In Concert with the Environment Program has been
helping teachers and their students become environmentally
conscientious, energy-efficient individuals for nearly a
decade. More than 800,000 students across the country have
participated in the Program – more than 16,000 right here on
Long Island! By introducing the Program to your students,
you will help them learn about:
- The use and cost of energy
- How electricity is produced
- How to save energy, money and the environment
- Energy and water conservation; and
- Recycling
Teaching Tools
In Concert with the Environment is also designed to make it as
easy as possible to teach your children about the earth. We will
help you deliver the message to students through:
- Brief, on-site teacher training by LIPA professionals
- A comprehensive Teacher’s Guide including suggested lesson plans, topics for classroom activities/discussion and resource lists
- Two lively and informative, 40-minute student presentations per class by LIPA facilitators
- A Home Energy Audit for students to take home to complete
This all-new detailed audit lets participants go on-line to see where they currently spend money on energy along with ways to reduce their energy costs.
A Well-Rounded CurriculumLIPA’s In Concert with the Environment has been expanded so it can be integrated with your lesson plans in the areas of Science, Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Home Economics, Technology
To make sure your students don’t miss any required coursework, the Program has also been correlated to the New York State Regents objectives for science.
