Change a Light...

“Change A Light...Change the World" is part of the US Environmental Protection Agency's national campaign "Change The World...Start With ENERGY STAR."

This campaign encourages all Americans to join with millions of others and take small, individual steps that make a big difference in the fight against global warming. Through the combined efforts of the U.S. government, grassroots organizations and citizens like you, what started as a day of national environmental recognition has evolved into a worldwide campaign to protect our global environment.

LIPA CFL Rebate
LIPA is participating in the Change A Light campaign and is offering a special lighting promotion to LIPA customers. Between September 1 and November 30, residential customers are eligible to receive 50 cents off eligible ENERGY STAR qualified CFLs at participating retail stores. CFLs in single packs will be 50 cents off while CFLs in multiple bulb packages will be up to $4 off.

Where to use ENERGY STAR qualified light bulbs?
To get the most energy savings, replace bulbs where lights are on the most, such as your family and living room, kitchen, dining room, and porch. Place bulbs in open fixtures that allow air flow and, if replacing a bulb operating on a dimmer switch, look for bulbs specifically designed for this use.

How to choose ENERGY STAR qualified lighting?
To choose the ENERGY STAR qualified light bulb or fixture with the right amount of light, choose one that offers the same lumen rating as the light you're replacing. Manufacturers will often label their packaging in terms of watt replacement, which can also guide your decision-making.

Change A Light

Did you know?

There are many things you can do at work, home and within your community to help protect the environment. If every American home replaced just one light with an ENERGY STAR qualified one, each year we would save enough energy to light more than 3 million homes, save more than $600 million in energy costs, and prevent greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions of more than 800,000 cars.
