Powering Long Island
BP Long Island Solar Farm
BP Solar's Island Solar Farm Project provides LIPA with up to 32 MW Alternating Current (AC) of solar energy on Brookhaven National Laboratory property, connected to the adjacent LIPA substation. This project consists of two large-scale solar arrays, a Laboratory-dedicated array of 1 to 2 MW, and a a solar research facility.
Did you know that the Long Island Solar Farm is...
-
The
largest solar energy project in the state of New York * - The largest photovoltaic array in the eastern U.S.*
- Among the largest in the nation constructed on federal property *
Quick Stats
-
Generates
32-megawatts (MW) of clean solar energy - Produces enough energy to power up to 4,500 LI homes
- Made up of 164,312 solar panels
- Smallest footprint for a solar array of its output
