Commissioning Case Studies
Projects that are receiving funding under any part of the Commercial Construction Program may be eligible for cost sharing for building commissioning. See the below case studies as examples.
1001 Franklin Avenue
In their endeavor to achieve LEED certification for the 1001
Franklin Ave office building, The Albanese Organization, Inc.
and Castagna Realty Inc. looked to the Long Island Power Authority
(LIPA) and their Commercial Construction Program to provide
assistance with rebates, incentives and professional consulting
services for commissioning services.

LIU, Pratt Recreation Center
The Long Island University (LIU), C.W. Post Campus, constructed
the Jeanette and Edmund T. Pratt Recreation Center that includes
a 3,000-seat gymnasium with three full-size basketball, volleyball
and badminton courts; an elevated indoor jogging track; a recreational
and competitive swimming pool; and weight, fitness and locker
rooms. The purpose of the commissioning process was to verify
the proper design, installation, testing, operation and training
for all the commissioned systems in the new building.

Sachem High School East
Shortly after the opening of the facility, the district was
experiencing higher than estimated energy costs. With the assistance
from LIPA, a pre-qualified commissioning agent was assigned
to review the energy bills and evaluate the facility to determine
the cause for the higher billing.

Suffolk DPW, Forensic Sciences Building
The Forensic Sciences Building at Suffolk County Department
of Public Works (SCDPW) underwent a retrofit program that included
the replacement the centrifugal chillers, cooling towers and
pumps with upgrades of motors including variable frequency drives
(VFD’s).

Suffolk DPW, Riverhead Chiller Plant
As part of a CFC refrigerant replacement project, Suffolk County
Department of Public Works (SCDPW) elected to replace two existing
centrifugal chillers at the Riverhead County Central Power Plant
with two new units utilizing a more favorable, environmentally-friendly
refrigerant.
