Air Conditioning (A/C) Retrofit Program
LIPA’s Commercial Efficiency Program (CEP) is now offering enhanced rebates to qualifying commercial, industrial, institutional, educational, municipal or multi-family* building customers who replace inefficient AC systems.
The program requires that the existing unit is operational or needs minor repairs.

The LIPA A/C Retrofit application gathers data the existing air conditioning equipment and the proposed new air conditioning equipment. The anticipated rebate is calculated based on the tonnage and energy efficiency rating of the proposed equipment.
As indicated on the A/C Retrofit application, submit completed worksheet and any other required documents to retrofit@service.lipower.org. Be sure to include the LIPA account number in the subject line.
Rebate Guidelines
Please note that LIPA reserves the right to change guidelines at any time without notice. Project must be started between 1/1/0212 and completed by 6/30/12.

- Program measures and rebate levels are pre-determined
- Customers must agree to LIPA’s Terms and Conditions found on A/C Retrofit Application (PDF)
- New construction and major renovation projects are not eligible
- Pre-approval is required for participation in the program
How to Participate
Before you purchase and install equipment, send the following to LIPA to receive your pre-approval letter:
- Completed A/C Retrofit Application (PDF)
- Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
- Manufacturer’s technical specification sheets (cut sheets) for each type of eligible equipment
- Photos are acceptable for identifying existing air conditioning unit(s)
- Must supply date-stamped digital photos - clearly showing HVAC plate make and model numbers
Submittal Information
- Forward all required documents (listed above) to
your LIPA representative or:
Email electronic submissions to retrofit@service.lipower.org. Include LIPA account number in subject line. - Submit hardcopy submissions to LIPA CEP Retrofit, 25 Hub Drive, Melville, NY, 11747
Pre-Approval Letter and Beyond
- After you receive your pre-approval letter, complete the project.
- After project is complete:
- Submit copies of itemized invoice showing the
facility address, date and place of purchase and the
model/part numbers of installed equipment.
Submit W-9 - A LIPA Representative may contact you to schedule a Post-inspection.

* Only Common Areas of Multi Family Buildings qualify under the CEP
