Electric Rate Discounts

LIPA’s Economic Development programs and services have a single, significant goal: to assist businesses on Long Island succeed and grow by providing solutions to meet current and future energy-related needs. An important part of this effort are the electric rate discounts offered to companies growing and expanding on Long Island. Over the past decade, LIPA electric rate discounts have resulted in more than $65 million in savings for more than 300 Long Island businesses.

Electric rate discounts are offered in the following categories:

  • Business Attraction/Expansion Rate Discounts
    For non-retail customers who significantly expand their Long Island operations or move their business to Long Island, and meet or exceed increased electric load or job creation/retention guidelines
  • Business Incubator Rate Discounts
    For start-up businesses that graduate from a New York State - sponsored incubator program and locate outside the incubator facility.
  • Empire Zone Rates
    For businesses who expand in or relocate to a designated Empire Zone or to qualifying companies designated by the municipality as a Regionally Significant Project outside a designated Empire Zone.
  • Load Shifting Option
    The load shifting option allows new program participants to permanently lower their electric rates by shifting their electric use away from LIPA's most critical load period - summer weekdays between 3PM and 10PM.
  • Manufacturing Competitiveness Rate Discounts
    For manufacturers who participate in New York State’s Industrial Effectiveness program to improve their competitive position in the marketplace. For more information on New York State’s Industrial Effectiveness Program, visit the N.Y. State government Web site.
